Obama administration vetoes Apple sales ban in U.S.
The Obama Administration has vetoed a decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission that would have led to a sales ban on older iPhones and iPads.
In an unexpected move, The Obama Administration vetoed an earlier ruling by the U.S. International Trade Commission that would have resulted in a sales ban of some older Apple devices.
That ban, set to formally begin on Monday, was decided in early June after Samsung accused Apple of infringing on its patents. The President had 60 days to review the decision and intervene, something that hadn't been done in an ITC decision since 1987.

Samsung is smart, but it also seems increasingly lazy — despite what the company might have you believe, the Galaxy Tab 3 line feels very much like an afterthought, and far from the flagship line it once was.
I use the word lazy because Samsung knows what it has to do to make its tablet line more than just an accessory — and it's already done it with the Galaxy Note. Here’s a tablet that serves a purpose, one that takes TouchWiz and the tablet form factor and turns them into assets rather than liabilities. Sure, the Note tablets are priced a bit higher than their Galaxy counterparts, but wouldn’t you rather spend an extra buck on something that’ll serve as more than just another screen, and another gadget on your shelf?
Using a smartphone in China has become a dangerous task the last few weeks. First, we started hearing reports that iPhone users were getting electrocuted by their chargers, and now a Samsung S4 has allegedly devoured an entire apartment with a fireball explosion from its battery.
Mr. Du was just sitting around playing a intense game of Love Machine (not a joke) on his Galaxy S4. Suddenly it exploded into flame. Scared as shit, Mr. Du tossed the flaming phone across the room, where it landed under his flammable sofa and burned the entire apartment down. At least, that’s what Mr. Du told authorities.

Google Has Caught Apple Napping
Google has beat Apple at its own Retina-display-thumping game. Meet the Nexus 7, the eye-popping 323-pixels-per-inch wonder.
It is, in a way, the (rumored) iPad Mini Retina wrapped in Android 4.3.
Here's the deal: If you can find most of the apps you need on Google's Play Store and would like a small tablet with the highest resolution display on any tablet to date (i.e., higher than the 9.7-inch Retina iPad and way higher than the iPad Mini), then the second-generation Nexus 7 may be a good choice.
How did this happen? Well, Google, Asus (the device manufacturer), and Japan Display Inc. (the display maker) have managed, for the first time, to slap a smartphone-density display on a small tablet.

Apple Wins Best Tablet, Mobile Phone, and Computer Brand Of The Year. Again. | Cult of Mac
Market research firm Harris Interactive conducts a fairly extensive poll each year in the area of consumer electronic brands. This year, Apple again took the top spot in three major categories, named the best brand of tablet, computer, and mobile phone. The iPad, Mac, and iPhone scored the best across an array of specific brand markers, like brand recognition, emotional response to the brand, and purchasing consideration.
The survey measured the perceptions of over 38,500 US consumers across more than 1,500 brands in over 155 categories. Whew. Apple blew past the competition, which included HP, Dell, and Sony in the computer category, as well as Google and Samsung in the tablet category. Apple also won the top brand spot over HTC, Samsung, and LG in the mobile phone category.
