Article: Astronomers detect star leaving the Milky Way at record speeds

"An international team led by astronomers from Queen's University Belfast has identified the fastest ever star on an escape trajectory from the Milky Way – the white dwarf US709, which is traveling at a staggering 1,200 km per sec (746 miles per sec). The discovery of this star may shed light on the astronomical events that are vital to the calculation of distances in our universe... "

Exclusive: Apple Watch not on shopping list for 69 percent of Americans: Reuters poll

By Alexei Oreskovic

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Apple Inc's new smartwatch may be a tough sell, with 69 percent of Americans indicating they are not interested in buying the gadget, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

However, the survey also showed limited awareness of the watch. The poll was taken after Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook rolled out the product on Monday, and only about half of respondents said they had heard news of the timepiece in the last few days.

Also, in an encouraging sign for Apple, roughly 13 percent of survey respondents who did not own an iPhone said that they would consider buying one in order to buy an Apple Watch, which needs an iPhone to work fully.

Apple overcame skepticism about the iPad and iPod when they first debuted, but the survey suggests that the world's largest technology company has work to do to make the watch ubiquitous.

The new watch, a test of Cook's leadership, is the company's first new product in five years, and it hits stores on April 24.

Apple MacBook vs. Google Chromebook Pixel - Two Futuristic Computers Battle It Out : PERSONAL TECH : Tech Times

"Both of these computers are computers of the future. The MacBook is, as mentioned, a work of art. It is a fashion statement. The Chromebook, however, is a little more powerful and able to take on more. Both of these computers are great choices, though the MacBook is better as an all-purpose computer with the storage that it offers and the access to Apple's App Store. For those confident that they will be connected to the Internet at least most of the time and who don't need to do anything beyond what Google services can do or what can be done through web-based apps, the Chromebook is a great solution. The MacBook starts at $1,299, while the Chromebook Pixel starts at $999."

Dell Venue 8 7000 takes on iPad Mini, AsiaOne Science & Technlogy News

"Android tablets have gotten better over the recent times since the Nexus 7 and Android's Jellybean OS. There is no short of 'tablet' apps available in the Google Play Store, and Android is much easier to use than it was before while still letting users customise to their hearts' content.
Back when I reviewed and praised the Nexus 7 two years ago, it wasn't exactly the premium Android tablet I was looking for, but Dell has finally filled that gap with the Venue 8 7000.
More importantly, Dell's new tablet is finally giving Apple's iPad Mini a run for its money."

Dell Venue 8 7000 vs. Nexus 9: Which Android tablet is right for you? | Computerworld

Dell Venue 8 7000 vs Nexus 9

"

All considered...

All right -- so which tablet is the right one for you? Putting it all together, I'd say this:
If you want a bigger display or a softer, warmer device, the Nexus 9 is probably the more sensible choice for your needs. And if having Lollipop right now is important to you -- and/or you value knowing that you'll always have the latest Android software straight from Google as soon as it's released -- by all means go the Nexus route.
(Side note: If pure Google software is your main concern, you might also consider the 2013 Nexus 7 as an alternative. Provided you're okay with a smaller tablet, it's going to give you a better overall experience at a fraction of the cost, especially now that you can frequently find it for under $200.)
Otherwise, I'd steer you toward Dell's Venue 8. It's generally the nicer tablet of the two, with a far more premium and high-end vibe that includes better build quality, a more impressive display, and more consistent performance. Throw in the exceptionally compact design, standout speakers, and option for expandable storage, and it's got the clear upper edge overall.

New 2-Pound MacBook Hands-on: Pros and Cons

dsc00517 675403
SAN FRANCISCO – The new MacBook wants to be the ultimate ultraportable, weighing just 2 pounds and sporting a very sharp 12-inch Retina Display. To get it so compact and so thin, Apple developed an all-new keyboard and touchpad – and ditched everything but a single port. Priced at $1,299, this is definitely a premium laptop, but there’s some trade-offs involved.
We went hands on with the new MacBook and came away impressed with the new design.
